SoftRAID allows you to create and manage disk arrays to increase performance and reliability. SoftRAID allows the user to create and manage RAID 4 and 5 volumes, RAID 1+0, and RAID 1 (Mirror) and RAID 0 (Stripe) volumes. SoftRAID also provides 'predictive disk failure', where users are alerted to potential disk failures even before they fail.
SoftRAID groups your existing hard disks together to give you more capacity, speed and/or much faster backup.SoftRAID 3.6.8 is compatible with Snow Leopard in 32 bit mode. Note: you must update Snow Leopard to 10.6.2 to avoid bugs in the Snow Leopard kernel that can cause kernel panics.
You will be asked to replace the newer version of the SoftRAID driver that is bundled with Snow Leopard, with the 3.6.8 driver.A newer, 64 bit version of the SoftRAID driver is included with Snow Leopard for users in 64 bit mode, which will allow you to keep existing volumes and access data from the 64 bit version of Snow Leopard. Currently, only the X-Serve boots into 64 bit mode by default. SoftRAID 3.6.8 will not work in 64 bit mode.
